Exercise Update

What a better way to spend the rainy and dreary down time in between my classes than in the library blogging?? I have a laptop, an apple, and a trusty peanut butter Clif Bar…so I think I am set!

Nom nom nom

I was debating on my 3 hour drive back to school today as to what I wanted to blog about.

Did I want to fill you in on the terror I faced during my drive when a helicopter flew above the road for a solid 45 minutes? Sorta.  I felt like I was a part of a chase and that they were trying to find me and lock me up or something.  I have never had anything scare me into driving the speed limit as much as that darn helicopter. Luckily, I am not a wanted bank robber or murderer so they let me off easy. 😉

See that helicopter??? Out to get me, I swear! Oh ya, and the mountains were really pretty!

What I really felt like talking about is how, after one week, I have already seen a boost in my exercise motivation due to the workout schedule I created for myself.

Here’s what my schedule had in store for me for the week:

  • Monday: 3 mile run + strength
  • Tuesday: 4 mile run
  • Wednesday: 35 minute cross train
  • Thursday: 2 mile run + strength
  • Friday: rest
  • Saturday: 4 mile run
  • Sunday: 60 minute cross train

Though I didn’t stick to the schedule exactly, I am pretty happy with what I did do.  For example, on Wednesday, I did cross-training for an hour instead of the 35 minutes I had planned.  I know that some of the workouts don’t seem like much, but I am currently working 4 jobs and attending grad classes and doing homework, too.  The pre-planned workouts are just a guess of what I may feel like/have time for on the days.  In weeks to come, the mileage and time increases in order to train for the 15k coming up in December. Hopefully it all fits into my schedule, but I need to try to stay positive if it doesn’t.

I also switched up my rest day.  I went to a Zumba class on Friday instead of taking a rest day and took my day of rest on Sunday instead.  Since I was still at home this morning, I went to Zumba again.  I love the studio I have at home and don’t get to go often, so I made the decision to switch up my workout again and do some strength training instead tomorrow! Hey, I still got my sweat on so I was pretty pleased with it! And who doesn’t like jamming to Pitbull with women all 20+ years older than me?!

The fact that I made it to the gym/on the road six out of seven days is a big improvement.  I have also seen a rise in my eating healthy mojo, though the wedding this weekend kind of took away from that.  Just you wait until my WIAW post in which I should you some of the food/desserts that were at the wedding festivities.  I am drooling just thinking about them.

Now, I am off to be a productive college student until I have class at 6:30.  Something about night classes just puts a damper on my day.  On the upside, though, my Thursday night class is going to consist of a project outside of class (aka I don’t have to actually go) and tomorrow is just a speaker.  So tonight is basically my only class of the week! 🙂

What motivates you to exercise and stay healthy?

What do you/did you do in between your classes?

Have you ever been chased down by a helicopter? 😉

having a helicopter following you would be scary! can’t say it’s happened to me before though haha 🙂

  2. Woah! I don’t know what I would do. Probably panic about that helicoptor

Gaterade bottle twinnies! Right now practice motivates me but staying healthy on off season by signing up for races is what I love as well. 🙂

  3. Living by a base we have helicopters and huge planes flying around all the time here 🙂

Your workout schedule looks plenty good to me! AT least your not sitting on your bum…right? Hope you have a great day!

  4. You should be proud of yourself!! It’s hard to stay motivated, especially on the road. I stay motivated by reminding myself that running doesn’t have a real off season. If I can prepare for competition year round, I better be doing it so I can be the best runner I can be!

    • I am trying to get into that frame of mind. I just stopped my competitive swimming a few months ago so I am still in adjustment time!! Working on self-motivation and finding out what works for me and my life right now!

  5. I would be so afraid of the helicopter as well! EEK! Great job with doing the workouts that you did… you seem so busy- I don’t think I could do HALF of what you do without being exhausted! You go girl 🙂

  6. Ha you sound like me with my wedding weekends, they never end! Motivation to eat healthy always comes when I am at the gym and I see results. The more I train the more I feel better about myself 🙂

haha never chased by a helicopter.
my motivation is low on the days I work (Because of 12 hour shifts) I think I need a plan to get moving before or after. What do you think?
love that you think about what to blog when driving, I do the same 🙂
