Hump Day Surprises

Two shocking things:

#1. I am posting twice in one day.

Try and guess #2:

If the wet, crazy hair and circles on my forehead aren’t a giveaway, maybe this will be:

Obviously, #2 is that I am from Belarus! hahaha. Just kidding, gotta love cheapo swim caps from the Knabes bin.  Holla if you know what Knabes is Smile.

#2 really is that I went for a swim today!

My pull buoy helped me sweat pink.  YES, you do sweat while swimming!!

Though I only swam 4000 yards, the workout was the first one I’d done in QUITE some time.  I used this workout as a base and sort of modified it!

  • 1 x 800 warm up (300 swim, 200 kick, 200 pull, 100 swim)
  • 4 x 150 — 50 kick, 50 swim, 50 drill  2:15
  • 3 x :  (3 x 100 IM, 1 x 100 kick)  (IM on 1:45, kick on 2:15)
  • 16 x 50 alternating 2 pull, 2 kick (pull on 1:00, kick on 1:15)
  • 12 x 25: 1 hard/ez, 1 ez/hard, 1 ez, 1 hard (alternating 4 free, 4 fly)
  • 1 x 300 cool down
  • Total: 4000 yards in an hour and 20 minutes!

All in all, great workout.  My arms are feeling nice and tired.  Just the way I remembered it!

The one thing about swimming is that you get out of shape really fast.  I hope to swim at least once a week from here on out.  I always forget how much I love it, and how great of a workout it is!

Another thing about swimming that is good but super random: it forces me to brush my hair. HAHA I know that probably sounds really weird, but I NEVER brush my hair.  I am sure that is horrible, but I do brush it out with my fingers in the shower.  Curly hair and brushes don’t get along very well. With swimming, I can’t get anywhere without kid’s apple detangler and a good brush.  My cap makes an abnormal amount of knots in my hair, and it legit takes like 5 minutes to brush after I get out of the water.

Oh well Smile.  Maybe that’s just another reason I should swim a little more!

What’s your workout for today!?

  1. I’m sure it’s always a great day for you when you get to spend part of it in the pool!

Yey! Congrats on getting back in the water after your little hiatus! To be honest, when I read that you swam for an hour and 20 minutes I gasped haha– I can barely swim for 20 minutes!!

  3. Chasing Fifty

    Welcome back.

yay for getting back in the water!! i’m super impressed you did 4,000–I swim pretty consistently these days (usually 4-5 times a week) but I only do about 3,000 yards. I start getting bored being by myself after that 😦

also–I use the kid’s apple detangler too! such a lifesaver!

  5. Congrats on such a great swim workout. Swimming and me don’t get along. I am an awful swimmer- it is tough! I admire people who are good at it.

  6. Kari @ bite-sized thoughts

Good on you for the swimming! And you look impressively good in that photo for someone who’s just been swimming and still has wet hair (said by somone who would not be looking anywhere near as composed!) 🙂

  7. dang, that pool workout looks like a beast, i can barely manage the doggie paddle! 😉 that’s why i stick to the land miles…hehe. did some running on my treadmill this morning. but GREAT JOB in getting back to the h2o, don’t worry thanks to muscle memory u’ll be feeling back to ur normal swimmer self soon and keep on crushes those workouts. 🙂

  8. You motivate me to swim. HA. I need to get back in the pool…for those open water swims I am signed up for.
